House Fire 5841 Southland Dr

 

05/30/10 - Just before 1500 hours this Memorial Day, 44 was dispatched for a house fire on Southland Drive. Chief 440 (Nichols) arrived on scene, took command, reported a working fire, and confirmed evacuation complete. Engine 442 responded with 5 and arrived on location within minutes to begin suppression. The crew stretched 200' 1.75" preconnect hand line and brought hand tools to the second floor to combat the attic fire. BVFD Engine 362 supplied Engine 442 from the hydrant down the road. Tower 449 arrived moments after the first and second due engine and set up ground ladders, secured utilities, and set up the aerial to the roof for vertical ventilation. PHHC Engine 423 supplied Tower 449 from a second hydrant. Interior suppression crews opened up the ceiling to expose the fire in the attic and confined the fire to the upper floor. 23 minutes after the first due engine arrived command reported that the fire was knocked down and crews were checking for hot spots. At 1632 command reported fire under control. Crews spend another hour and a half on salvage, overhaul, ventilation, and securing the property. Mutual aid companies on scene were: 36, 42, 68, MPS, and MPD. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.
